Paolo D'Andrea, one of New Mexico's leading vintners from the Luna Rossa Vineyards in Deming, is our partner in establishing vineyards at the Rancho Hidalgo. A fifth generation vintner from northern Italy, the award winning and highly acclaimed D'Andrea has been cultivating grapes in New Mexico for 20 years and now operates its largest vineyard.
Phase 1 of Canto Diablo Vineyards calls for the planting of 20 acres with five different varieties. Land owners at Rancho Hidago will be able to participate in the vineyard through Limited Partnership offering an enormous profit potential and tax credit as well as depreciation deductions generated through agricultural operations. The average vineyard in New Mexico produces 3,200 750ml bottles of wine per acre. We will plant 60 acres over the first three years. Wine production will reach 70% within three years of planting.
New Mexico is the oldest wine growing region in the United States. The first Spanish settlers brought their grape varieties with them and established vineyards in the early 1500s, initially along the Rio Grande. Today grapes are grown in the northern, central and southern regions of New Mexico. At Rancho Grande the natural supply of geothermal water, mineral-rich soil and sunny climate will enable excellent vintages to be produced. |
